NORCOR Adult Release Paths

NORCOR Adult Corrections is Sherman County's operative adult jail, although the building is in The Dalles in neighboring Wasco County. It is a regional county jail serving Gilliam, Hood River, Sherman, and Wasco counties. That arrangement separates the arresting agency, custodial agency, court, and later supervising office. NORCOR holds the jail record. Sherman Circuit Court holds a Sherman criminal judgment. The joint Wasco/Sherman Community Corrections office handles local probation, parole, and post-prison supervision. Those records should be read together when the release path is unclear.

Leaving NORCOR can mean release on security, recognizance, time served, or completion of a local sentence. It can also mean transfer to an Oregon Department of Corrections institution, another county jail, federal custody, or immigration custody. A person may start probation or resume parole or post-prison supervision. Only some outcomes place the person in the community. A name disappearing from the NORCOR Adults in Custody roster proves none of those outcomes by itself.

Confirm a NORCOR Adult Release

The public roster is a current-custody list. It is timestamped to the minute and can show name, booking date, lead charge, bail, and a prospective Scheduled Release field. A detail record may add arrest and booking identifiers, charge dispositions, physical descriptors, and payment totals. NORCOR does not state that the page refreshes every minute, nor does the interface display a released-person archive or a Sherman-only filter. A listed person is still shown in regional custody. An absent person needs another check.

Use a narrow sequence to avoid confusing a roster change with a completed release:

1. Search the NORCOR current list and record its displayed timestamp.
2. If the person is absent, call NORCOR at 541-298-1576 with an accurate name and a booking, case, or birth identifier when known.
3. Ask whether the person was released or transferred, and request the actual release date and disposition through the formal record channel when proof is needed.
4. Follow any transfer into ODOC, another county, BOP, or ICE through that receiving system.
5. Reconcile a Sherman case with its Circuit Court judgment when the legal basis for release matters.

NORCOR Adult Release Records

A completed NORCOR release record is requested from the facility rather than inferred from the current roster. The NORCOR Public Information page supplies the official channel and links its request form. Identify the person, provide a useful date range, and ask for existing fields with precision. Useful items include the booking number and date, lodging agency, charges and holds, actual release date and time, release disposition or destination category, Scheduled Release changes, and security information. Ask the custodian to identify the legal basis for any withheld field.

The form may be submitted to NORCOR Administration in person, by mail, email, or fax. No fixed record fee or completion time is published in the research, so neither should be assumed. A narrow electronic request can reduce uncertainty. Oregon Public Records Law provides the response framework, but scope, clarification, exemptions, estimates, and payment can affect timing. NORCOR's jail file does not substitute for an ODOC discharge record or a federal release record.

Regional NORCOR Release Custody

Sherman County has no standalone operating county jail in its official facility map. The regional arrangement is the key local fact. A Sherman County Sheriff's arrest can lead to detention in Wasco County, prosecution in Sherman Circuit Court, and later supervision through a joint office in The Dalles. Calling every record “the county record” hides who can answer each question. NORCOR can confirm jail checkout. The court can establish the disposition. Community Corrections can route supervision questions.

This source is also useful after release because a later NORCOR entry may represent a sanction for a parole, probation, or post-prison-supervision violation rather than a new case sentence. Probation is court-ordered community supervision. Parole and post-prison supervision follow certain prison sentences or Board authority. Physical release is not the same event as final discharge from all supervision.

NORCOR Adult Release Timing

NORCOR says release after security is posted is processed as soon as possible, subject to facility operations. Checkout from the custody unit and changing into civilian clothes take time. No guaranteed exit hour follows from payment or a Scheduled Release entry. An adult age 18 or older may post security at any time with official photo identification and while not under the influence. NORCOR lists the arraigning court during court hours, the lobby ViaPath or Telmate kiosk, telephone payment, and an AIC's own posting through booking as available routes.

The displayed security amount is normally ten percent, although some traffic matters require the full amount. NORCOR directs users to pay the displayed figure. Its Bail Information page lists a 3.95 percent cash-system fee with a $3.95 minimum and a credit-card charge of 9 percent plus $9.95. Direct court handling and refund rules differ. Funds put in an AIC's bail account become that person's funds, and NORCOR does not itself refund posted security.

For pickup planning, wait for direct release confirmation. A court order can change, a hold can require transfer, and facility checkout can add delay. The NORCOR record, not a payment receipt, establishes the completed custody event.

NORCOR Adult Release Property

NORCOR's Money and Property guidance allows approved release clothing to be delivered up to three days before a Scheduled Release. Supervisor approval is required. Delivery goes through the administration lobby desk from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Since a future date can move, the person bringing clothes should coordinate with staff before making the trip.

Property release to another person requires the person in custody to authorize it. NORCOR lists pickup on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 8 to 11, subject to identification, approval, delay, and staff availability. The page uses distinct restrictions for recipients recently held at NORCOR: one year for money and 90 days for property. Those rules should not be blended. They address different transactions.

These procedures help with practical preparation, but none confirm release. Clothing approval can occur before the date changes. Property pickup may involve another person while custody continues. Verify the release event through the desk or actual release entry, then use the property rules for the separate task they govern.

Travel also takes planning because NORCOR sits outside Sherman County. Sherman Transit serves the broader Sherman and The Dalles area, but the county requires a ride reservation 24 to 48 hours ahead. Service runs on weekdays and closes on holidays. There is no required fare, though donations are encouraged. The service is not a walk-up gate shuttle, and uncertain NORCOR checkout timing can make a fixed pickup difficult. Call 541-565-3553 in advance and describe the trip as a planning request, not a guaranteed release ride. A family member should still confirm physical release with NORCOR before relying on any connection.
